How to create a podcast right from an iPod Touch

In this section I'll cover how to create a podcast right on the iPod Touch itself. Podcasts can be create with other software, such as GarageBand and iMovie, but here I'll show you right from the iPod Touch itself! If you are looking how to create a podcast and edit in and out material in either GarageBand or iMovie, I suggest heading over to those sections using the SideBar. This section serves the purpose of creating a simple, easy, and short podcast directly on the iPod Touch.

Backwards thinking

What I mean by this is that when first creating a podcast you have an idea what direction you want to head. You have a vision already of what that end result will look like, but how will you get there? Careful planning and laying out of the end goal will help with the brainstorming and creative thinking that is needed to create that end result. In this case, a podcast. This might involve writing out a script/storyboards and doing numerous takes to get the result exactly the way you want it. The better the plan, the better the podcast.

Creation time

Equipment Needed:

  • iPod Touch
  • Microphone (ask the Technology Coordinator for the proper one)
  • Wireless Internet connection
  • Posterous account

Example Uses:

  • Link your Posterous URL to teacher website
  • Post homework in podcast form
  • Create a podcast to add on to the day's notes
  • Create reminders for the students
  • Create podcast study guides for students

**Once again I'll walk you through all the steps necessary. If you are not sure what Posterous is do not worry, I'll explain exactly what it does and how to use it.**

After you have an idea what you want to podcast about its time to dive into our recording.

Step 1: Locate the Voice Memos app. The Voice Memos app will allow us to record our voice or voices if working as a group.

Step 2: Launch the Voice Memos app by tapping on it.

Step 3: Tap the record button and begin recording. You only get one shot to get the recording right, so do your best to speak slow and clearly. Once you begin recording you will notice that there is a pause and stop button. If you need to take a break or gather your thoughts hit the pause button. If you are happy with your recording hit the stop button.

Step 4: After you hit stop, you will be taken to a screen titled "Voice Memos". Here you will be able to listen to all of the recordings you have made, as well as share them. The voice memos will be listed in chronological order by date and time.

Step 5: Tap on the recording you want to share. Then click the share button at the bottom of the screen.

Step 6: When sharing, make sure you choose "Email".

If you have already used Posterous and have an account and know all of the remaining steps involved, you can skip to the last step. If not please follow all of the remaining steps.

Step 7: When the new email message opens, make sure you write the email to: post@posterous.com (This will begin the new account setup)

Step 8: Give the subject a subject. The subject of the email will be the title of the podcast. For example, I titled my subject "Wiki Podcast". Wiki Podcast is now the title of the podcast I just created.

Step 9: Send the email.

Step 10: Receive confirmation email and click on the link in the mail to complete the account signup process. Follow the few on screen steps to complete the signup process.

Step 11: View your Posterous account page and check to make sure everything is functioning properly.
